The term "flat table ware" is the proper term for metal dining utensils such as forks, spoons, and knives. At Tsubame Bussan Co., Ltd., we use this term to emphasize our approach to designing tools that balance function, comfort, and long-term daily use, rather than following short-lived trends.

The Stilla gift set has been awarded the Good Design Award 2025 (Japan) for its thoughtful design, usability, and refined appearance. Designed and manufactured in Tsubame, Japan, a world-renowned metalworking region, Stilla combines comfort, durability, and timeless aesthetics.

◆Design Features
1. Ergonomic Head Design
The head width is carefully balanced for a natural and comfortable feel.
Its gentle curve allows a smooth insertion and removal, enhancing the dining experience.

2. Lightweight with Arched Handle
Compared to the conventional cutlery, Stilla is lighter and easier to handle.
The arched handle makes it easy to pick up from the table and comfortable to switch from chopsticks.

3. Satin Finished for Daily Use
The handle features a satin (matte) finished that reduces visible fingerprints and scratches, making it suitable for both professional and everyday use.

4. Designed with Real Users in Mind
Developed based on feedback from chefs, restaurants, and home users,

Stilla quietly inherits the place that Lilac held — and carries it forward, from professional kitchens into the everyday home. Listening closely to a form refined over more than seventy years, each element was reconsidered one by one: how it meets the mouth, how it weighs in the hand, how naturally it moves. On busy days and days meant to be savored. For time alone and for meals shared with others. It settles into the hand effortlessly, moves without friction, and never interrupts the rhythm of a meal. A series that asks nothing of the user or the occasion — one that quietly raises the quality of everyday life from the ground up.

— Bringing a Long-Seller into the Present
For over seventy years, the Lilac series has been a cornerstone of the Japanese professional market. To understand why it endures, the team gathered feedback from users — and found something unexpected: it was hard to bring to the mouth, and felt heavy. With lifestyles having shifted so much since its original release, continuing unchanged was not an option. A redesign began.

— Balancing Usability and Ease of Care
Weight was reduced while preserving balance, and enough thickness was kept so it never feels insubstantial in the hand. The head — the part that meets the mouth — is finished in a clean mirror polish; the handle in matte. Fingerprints and minor scratches stay out of sight, and the piece handles without stress from use through washing. A gentle arch shape makes the transition from chopsticks feel immediate and natural.

— Designed for a Clean Release
To avoid interrupting the natural movement of the mouth, the head was made slightly narrower to match the width of the lips, and the deepest point of the bowl was shifted further back. It enters smoothly and releases without catching on the lips. A shape designed to remove small moments of discomfort. Thickness, too, was refined so that the sensation against the mouth continues naturally.
